West Iredell Fire Rescue responded Tuesday at 10:01 p.m. on Old Miller Road to a house fire—rescuing two kittens, with one revived—before controlling the blaze by 10:45 p.m. and alerting the Red Cross to help the displaced family.

Officials propose removing roadless protections covering thousands of acres of forest in Pisgah near Old Fort, a move that some say risks water quality and local recreation along the Catawba River.
