Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 3rd of October.
Good morning, Statesville.
🎓 Education
Cornerstone Christian Academy (serving local families for 32 years) finished the Yass Prize Accelerator and is one of 26 contenders for the $1 million Yass Prize.
The winner will be announced October 6 as the school plans to expand classroom seats and launch a new STAR classroom.
🏥 Health
Nurse Practitioner Camila Flores joined Iredell Pediatrics this week and will see patients from birth to 17.
She is fluent in English and Spanish (supporting a friendly, family-centered approach) and is accepting new patients at the practice.
On Friday, several East Iredell Elementary students became ill after eating cookies brought by a fellow student; Iredell County EMS evaluated and transported some students when requested by parents (none experienced life-threatening reactions) as the Sheriff’s Office works with school officials to investigate the incident.
The local Missions of Mercy program is providing free dental care at a community clinic (downtown) to uninsured residents needing treatment.
Organizers say the event helps give new smiles and better oral health.
