If you drive in Mooresville, two big housing proposals are headed your way. Developers want to build a combined 451 apartments and townhomes along the highway, and the Mooresville Board of Commissioners, which has the final say, was scheduled to consider both at 6 p.m. Monday at Town Hall.

Both projects were unanimously rejected by the town's Planning Board in June. The board only makes recommendations. Member Laura Temple said the apartment plan packed too many homes on the site before she voted no.

  • Davis Development: 261 apartments in the 800 block of River Highway
  • Also planned: a convenience store and gas station, retail center and restaurant
  • Marquis Homes: 190 townhomes in the 200 block of Kendra Drive
  • Parc at Lake Norman: 30.78 acres off N.C. 150

Marquis Homes first proposed another way into its property that avoided N.C. 150, but dropped that plan after about 70 neighbors in the Morrison Plantation subdivision opposed it.

We’re a little bummed this morning.

“After handing out full-sized candy bars to over 650 kids and having an awesome Halloween, we woke up to our handmade scarecrows torn down and missing their heads. If anybody’s kids happen to have a green creature mask or a devil mask they didn’t have before, we’d really love to have them back. We love this community…”

The Wrap

The Old Jail in Statesville is turning into a gratitude gallery this week. The Iredell Arts Council's The Art of Gratitude opens Wednesday, Nov. 4, with mosaic, painting, glass, clay and original poetry, some of it paired. The open call drew about 30 submissions, one of the strongest responses the council has received. Lovely use of a jail.
