A Mooresville Navy veteran gets a refurbished Toyota Highlander through Recycled Rides

5 milesAllen walked to the unveiling, NABC's Alan Dietz said

Allen had been without a car for years.

If you need some good news: Navy veteran Delvin Allen received a refurbished 2021 Toyota Highlander XSE on Oct. 6 through the National Auto Body Council's program. It was presented at Maaco's Mooresville location.

  • Donated by Allstate, refurbished by Maaco
  • Nominated by:
  • Navy service: began in 2014
  • Before: relied on rideshare for his children's school and appointments

Allen had been without a car for years. Veterans Bridge Home's Dwayne Wells said Allen first asked for help with something else, and they then found transportation was a big need for him.

“This vehicle means happiness; it means more genuine, loving times together at a faster pace. I can attend more events with my children.”

Since 2007, the program has donated more than 3,850 refurbished vehicles nationwide. If you're a veteran, a monthly veterans breakfast at Another Broken Egg Café in Ballantyne is free for first-timers.
